To add SQL Server Express 2016 to Windows Server 2012:

1. Install any Windows updates as normal.

2. It will indicate there are no more updates to install.

3. Navigate to: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42153 (install kb2919442).

4. Run Check for updates again.

5. The kb2919355 update will now be available and is a pre-req for SQL Server Express 2016.

6. Process with SQL Server Express 2016 install.
