Shelving

Shelving is the act of temporarily deactivating a virtual machine (VM) in order to keep a not currently active machine, but reduce costs to only paying for the storage space and assigned IPs. This is a popular option for those that want to keep a machine, but cannot justify the monthly expense if it won’t be used.

Shelving a Virtual Machine

To shelve a virtual machine, simply press the Shelve button on the virtual machine details page. The hypervisor will then take a snapshot of the machine to save the machine’s data.

Reactivating a Virtual Machine

To “reactivate” a virtual machine, press the Unshelve button.

Prices are as follows:

Storage: $0.05/GB/Mo

IP Addresses: $1/IP/Mo
