This knowledgebase article explains how to use your computer to establish a Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) to your Windows server. The Remote Desktop Connection app is pre-installed on all Windows systems and gives you direct access to the server’s desktop interface. To connect to your server, all you will need is the IP address of the Windows server you want to connect to.
Steps to Connect to Your Server via Remote Desktop App:
Open the Remote Desktop Connection desktop app.

. - Windows 8: On the home screen, type the search term “Remote Desktop Connection” and click
Remote Desktop COnnection
in the list of results. - Windows 10: Click the
search box
in the taskbar and enter “Remote Desktop Connection”. Then select the appRemote Desktop Connection
.
- Windows 7:
In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click
options
(Windows 7) orShow Options
(Windows 8,10).In the “Computer” text box, enter the IP address of the server.
In the “Username” text box, enter the user name of the server.
Optional: Check the box, “Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer”.
Click
Connect
The Windows Security window will open.
Enter the server password and click
OK
.If you establish the Remote Desktop connection to the desired server for the first time or do not save the connection data, you must confirm the connection establishment with

.The Remote Desktop Connection is established.
A session is created on your server for each connection. With the license, a maximum of 1 connection can be established simultaneously. To end a session, you must log off the server. If the Remote Desktop window is simply closed, the session and all programs running in it are retained. If you require more than 1 active connection to the server desktop, you will need to purchase additional RDS CALs or SALs.
